Nissan is recalling more than 37,000 Rogue and Infiniti QX80 SUVs due to a defect that can cause the rearview camera to display a blank image while the vehicle is in reverse, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Nissan recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on Oct. 3. It applies to 37,236 model year 2024-2025 Rogue and 2025 Infiniti QX80 vehicles.
According to the recall, a software error is the cause of the potential blank screen when reversing.
“The loss of the rearview camera image while in reverse can reduce the driver’s rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Nissan recall says.
The defect also means the vehicles fail to comply with the federal motor safety requirements for rear visibility. So far, there have been no accidents or injuries reported as a result of the rearview display issue, the Nissan recall states.
Nissan offers free software update
Nissan says it will fix the issue by updating the in-vehicle infotainment system by an over-the-air software update, or by a dealer, free of charge.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed out by Nov. 21, the Nissan recall says.
Earlier this month, Nissan North America recalled 24,000 model year 2019-2020 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles over concerns their battery could overheat, posing a fire risk.
